Prototyping Digital Heritage Applications: the Virtual Museum of the Barberini Terrace - Palatine Hill, Rome
by Sofia PescarinBruno FaniniDaniele Ferdani and Enzo D'Annibale

In 2016, during the preparation of a rock musical in Rome about the life of the Roman emperor Nero, CNR ITABC has been involved in the proposal of a Virtual Museum dedicated to an area of the Palatine hill (the so-called Barberini terrace), facing the Colosseum, where the stage of the show should have been temporarily built. The exhibit aims at presenting immersive reality as a way to prototype on site virtual museums and to solve common issues that commonly emerge in the design and production of such on site installations. The final project is presented using Immersive Virtual Reality with HMD. The Virtual Museum final setup has been created and dismantled but the visitors of DigitalHeritage could experience this Museum experience demonstrating that this tool is not only a prototype instrument but also a way to archive and keep the memory of digital applications.
