Hyeseung Shim is currently undertaking a post-graduate course at the Graduate School of Culture Technology at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) starting in 2018. Her research is focused on the heritage documentation associated with the application of different types of technologies (i.e. 3D laser scanning). Prior to KAIST, from 2009 to 2017, she served as an Assistant Programme Specialist and as an UNESCO Consultant in the implementation of various projects for the conservation of the World Heritage properties, notably subterranean tombs and their mural paintings, monuments and archaeological sites in the Asia-Pacific region as well as of the 1972 World Heritage Convention at the World Heritage Centre in UNESCO (HQ in Paris). She also served as the project officer from 2007 to 2009 at the Establishment Initiative for the UNESCO Category II Center - the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Korea. Besides, she is the Member of ICOMOS Korea, and the Expert Member of ICOMOS International Scientific Committee on Legal, Administrative and Financial Issues.
