Patrick Schmitz is Associate Director of Research IT at UC Berkeley, providing IT strategy and solutions in support of campus research; and Director of Berkeley Research Computing. He provides technical leadership for IT solutions across a range of research programs with an emphasis on computationally intensive research, data science, and semantic technologies. Prior to UC, he was a researcher at Microsoft Research, Yahoo! Research, and CWI in Amsterdam, and co-founded a series of tech startups. He has a BA in Computer Science, and a Masters of Information Management and Systems, both from UC Berkeley.
